I work at Books a Million. I've never worked retail before and I've certainly never used a cash register before. I've also never ';sold'; anything to anyone before.
In other words I have no experience at this, but they're about to put me on the register and I'm worried about it.
At Books-a-Million, we're expected to sell 10% discount cards and presale vouchers on upcoming books and special offers. And there is a TREMENDOUS amount of pressure placed on it. I will be given something of a ';script'; with which to ';sell'; to the customers, but if that were all there was to it we could could just post a sign with the script on it and they would sell themselves.
It's all going to hinge on my poor, underdeveloped selling skills. I have the ';Little Red Book of Selling'; and ';Little Red book of Selling Answers'; books, but I don't know if that's going to apply to my register work.
Any selling secrets from you pros out there or books written about selling on cash registers or helpful web sites?
